An 18650 is a rechargeable lithium-ion battery cell commonly used in advanced vaping devices, specifically external-battery mods that require the user to insert and remove batteries manually. High-drain 18650 cells are rated for the continuous discharge demands of regulated and mechanical mods. Internal battery devices such as pod kits and all-in-one systems do not use 18650 cells.

Most vaping devices, including VAPO's closed pod ranges and the majority of open pod kits, charge via USB cable and do not require an external battery charger. A dedicated external charger is only needed for devices with removable 18650 batteries, as it allows cells to be charged outside the device with more controlled and monitored charging. If your device charges via USB, a standard wall-to-USB adapter is all you need.

Using the correct charger for your device is important for battery safety. For USB-charging devices, using a standard 5V USB wall adapter is appropriate. Avoid using high-current fast chargers not rated for vaping devices. For external 18650 batteries, a dedicated charger is recommended over charging through the device itself, as it provides more controlled charging and displays charge status. Never charge batteries unattended or overnight.

An 18650 battery should be replaced when it can no longer hold a full charge, when the device reports lower-than-expected battery life, or if the battery wrapper becomes damaged. A battery with a compromised outer wrap should be re-wrapped or replaced immediately, as exposed cells present a safety risk. Most high-quality 18650 cells have a lifespan of several hundred charge cycles before capacity begins to noticeably degrade.
